BINGHAMTON TAKES TWO OF THREE FROM AEROS
Mike Carp and Fernando Martinez both homered for the Binghamton Mets, who rallied past the Akron Aeros for a 6-3 win at NYSEG Stadium Wednesday. The B-Mets took two out of three in the series.
Akron (2-4) went ahead 2-0 in the second off Jose Sanchez, thanks to Nathan Panther’s RBI groundout and Jose Constanza’s RBI single. However, that was all Sanchez (2-0) would allow in five innings of work.
A three-run third put the B-Mets (4-3) ahead for good. After Martinez began the inning with a double off Chuck Lofgren, Emmanuel Garcia bunted him to third. Daniel Murphy brought Martinez in with a sacrifice fly, cutting Akron’s lead in half. Lofgren (0-1) then issued a two-out walk to Nick Evans, who came around to score when Carp homered to left-center, a two-run shot that put Binghamton up 3-2.
Binghamton added an insurance run in the fourth when Ambiorix Concepcion led off with a double and later scored on Jonathan Malo’s sac fly. Martinez homered off the video scoreboard in right-center in the seventh to make it 5-2 Binghamton.
After Michael Aubrey’s leadoff homer in the eighth pulled Akron within 5-3, the B-Mets responded in the bottom of the frame when Evans hit a one-out triple and scored on Carp’s infield single for the final margin of victory.
