AEROS RALLY FALLS SHORT IN 8-5 LOSS

Wes Hodges homered and drove in four Akron runs but a ninth inning rally fell just short as Bowie triumphed 8-5 before 3,619 fans at Prince George’s Stadium Sunday afternoon. The Baysox improved to 17-13 while the Aeros slipped to 12-17.

The Aeros were quickly down 2-0 in the contest, but Wes Hodges changed that, giving the Aeros a 3-2 lead with a three-run homer in the fourth. Bowie didn’t stay behind long, getting all three runs back in the bottom of the inning to go ahead 5-3.

The score remained 5-3 until Bowie tacked on a run in the seventh. The Aeros struck back in their half of the eighth, getting a run back thanks to back to back hits from Josh Rodriguez and Chris Gimenez. Rodriguez scored on a single by Wes Hodges, as he collected his fourth RBI of the day. However, Aeros’ pitcher Seung-Wei Tseng gave up another run in the eighth, making it 8-5 heading into the final frame. The Aeros had the tying runs on in the ninth but couldn’t get the winning runs in. The loss completed a three game weekend sweep for Bowie, the first time the Aeros have been swept since a July series against Erie last season.

Felix Romero (1-0) got the win for Bowie thanks to 3.1 scoreless innings of relief. Ryan Edell (1-3) struggled through is own 3.1 innings, giving up five runs (all earned) and nine hits. Julio Manon notched his ninth save of the year.

The Aeros open a seven game homestand at 7:05 p.m. Monday night against Altoona. The game broadcast begins at 6:50 p.m. on SportsRadio 1350 AM and online at www.akronaeros.com. For more information, please call the Aeros at (330) 253-5151.
