FLOODING BRINGS ASSOCIATES TO NURSING HOME
The Akron Aeros are no strangers to incidents of rain, as the Double-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians just played their eighth doubleheader of the season Thursday night on the road against the Bowie Baysox. Back in Akron however, three ticketing associates in their first seasons of professional baseball have gained a new perspective on Mother Nature. Scott Campbell, Cody Demster and John Golz were all recently flooded out of their apartment complex and are now taking up temporary shelter in the Chapel Hill Towers assisted living center.
FIVE AEROS HONORED AS EL ALL-STARS
Five Aeros were named to the Eastern League All-Star team today, as first baseman Beau Mills, catcher Carlos Santana, outfielder Nick Weglarz, starting pitcher Hector Rondon and closer Vinnie Pestano will represent the Southern Division roster. The All-Star Game will take place Wednesday, July 15th at Waterfront Park in Trenton, and Akron was one of three teams with five players named to the squad.
WEGLARZ NAMED PLAYER OF THE WEEK AGAIN
Aeros left fielder Nick Weglarz was honored as Eastern League Player of the Week for the week ending June 28th, earning his second weekly award of the season. The 21-year-old native of Canada was just named to the World Team for the prestigious XM All-Star Futures Game, and previously won the award for the week ending May 17th.
WEGLARZ, SANTANA NAMED TO FUTURES GAME
Aeros left fielder Nick Weglarz and catcher Carlos Santana will represent the World Team in the 11th annual XM All-Star Futures Game as part of Major League Baseball’s All-Star Weekend Sunday, July 12th at Busch Stadium in St. Louis. This season will mark the third time in four years that two Aeros have participated in the Futures Game, as Wes Hodges and Matt LaPorta played for the U.S. team last year and pitchers Sean Smith and Adam Miller both went for the U.S. in 2006. A total of 13 Aeros have participated in the showcase since the inaugural edition in 1999.
